Cal Faces UCLA in Pac-10 Quarterfinal Rematch

Golden Bear Game Notes ...
* No. 9 seed Cal faces top-seeded UCLA in the Pac-10 Tournament quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The game will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net.

* Thursday's game represents a rematch from last year's quarterfinal, won by Cal, 76-69, in overtime. Ayinde Ubaka matched his career high with 29 points and Ryan Anderson contributed 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bears.

* Cal and UCLA have met three other times in Pac-10 Tournament history. The Bruins won, 75-68, in the semifinals in 1987 and, 71-52, in the 2006 final. The Bears prevailed, 67-61, in the 2002 quarterfinals.

* With its 84-81 victory over Washington Wednesday, Cal has now won at least one game in the Pac-10 Tournament five of the last seven years. The Bears are 7-6 in the tourney since it resumed in 2002.

* UCLA swept both games during the regular season, claiming a 70-58 victory on Jan. 5 in Berkeley and emerging with an 81-80 decision last Saturday at Pauley Pavilion. Cal has won at least one game against UCLA nine years in a row (1999-2007) and has a chance to extend the run Thursday. Last year, Cal also lost twice to the Bruins in the regular season before pulling off the upset in the Pac-10 Tournament.

* Cal's win over Washington improved the Bears' record in games decided by five points or less or in overtime to 5-7 this year. Cal lost its first four close games, won its next four, then lost three in a row before Wednesday's result.

* With his 22 points and 16 rebounds vs. Washington, sophomore F Ryan Anderson became the first player in school history to score at least 600 points and grab at least 300 rebounds in one year. He now has 645 points and 304 boards on the season. His point total ranks No. 3 behind only Lamond Murray (729 points in 1994) and Leonard Taylor (649 points in 1989). Anderson is also the first Bear to snag 300 rebounds since Mark McNamara had 341 in 1982.

* Cal increased its Pac-10-leading scoring average to 77.7 points with Wednesday's win. The Bears have scored at least 80 points in each of their last four games, and their 80-point total at UCLA last week was the most allowed by the Bruins this season.

* Senior C DeVon Hardin, who missed the March 8 UCLA contest with a strained hip flexor suffered vs. USC March 6, came off the bench for seven points, eight rebounds and two blocks in 20 minutes vs. Washington.
